MEDIA CONSENT POLICY

Loud & Local: Many Voices, One Borough

Loud & Local is a community storytelling project delivered by Youth Unity CIC, Write Back, and Green Shoes Arts, in partnership with the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham. We are committed to collecting and sharing stories in a safe, respectful, and legally compliant way.

This policy explains how we obtain consent for film, photography, audio, and written stories featured across the project.

1. Informed Consent

We only publish media (film, interviews, photographs, audio clips, artwork, or written content) when individuals have given informed, voluntary consent.
Participants are told:

  • What the content is for

  • Where it will appear (website, social media, print, screenings)

  • That participation is optional

  • That they can withdraw their consent before publication

For participants under 18, we use age-appropriate explanations.

2. Consent for Under-16s

In line with safeguarding requirements, parental or guardian consent is obtained for anyone under the age of 16.
No child’s image, story, or voice is used publicly without a signed permission form.

3. Right to Withdraw

Participants may withdraw consent at any point before content is published.
After publication, we will remove content from the website or digital platforms where technically possible.

4. Sensitive Content & Anonymity

Some stories include personal, emotional, or sensitive themes.
Participants may choose to:

  • remain anonymous

  • use only their first name

  • be represented only through audio, silhouette, or written form

We respect all confidentiality requests.

5. Ownership & Usage

As set out in the project agreement, all media produced for Loud & Local is jointly owned by Youth Unity CIC, Write Back, Green Shoes Arts, and the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.

Media may be used for:

  • project reporting

  • community engagement

  • screenings

  • educational or promotional purposes

  • digital publication (website/social media)

Third-party use is not permitted without written permission.

6. Data Protection

All media and participant information is stored securely and used in compliance with GDPR.
We do not share personal details with external organisations.
